Giant Salamanders
Description: 5 to 9 foot long salamanders. Green or brown in color with shiny skin.
Location/Range: Thought to reside in the Trinity Alps Wilderness portions of the Shasta Trinity mounatin range.
Sightings: First documented in the 1920s. Scientific expeditions to document the salamanders occured throughout the 1950s-1990s resulting in little documentation.
Fun Fact: Thought to be a misplaced Asian Giant Salamander or Hellbender. It may also be a subspecies of the Pacific Giant Salamander that due to an ideal habitat has grown beyond the typical known size of the species.
